Based on the post-war need for engineers trained in welding process technology, the Welding Engineering department at The Ohio State University was officially established on January 1, 1948. Major research activities include welding metallurgy and weldability, robotics, sensors and controls, welding design and fitness-for-service, underwater welding, nondestructive testing, plastics and polymeric composite joining, and laser welding.
